Steinway Lyngdorf launches new Model C loudspeaker

Steinway & Sons Model C loudspeaker

Steinway Lyngdorf announces the launch of the new Steinway & Sons Model C loudspeaker. The Model C is a direct descendant from the first and original Steinway & Sons loudspeaker, the iconic Model D, sharing some of its core speaker technology but in a much smaller, lighter design. The downsizing has been achieved by separating the woofers from the main speaker, adapting the company’s boundary woofer technology.

Follow-up model of the original Model C

The first Model C was introduced in 2008, following the top-of-the-range Model D loudspeaker. The new Model C MK II launched at the ISE 2024 has an even more elegant and lighter design, with extended black strings on the backside replacing the former amplifier and crossover box, which are now part of the external digital amplifiers and processor. The sound performance has also been improved, with the crossover and sound alignment between all drive-units now entirely and losslessly in the digital domain. The Model C provides the highest sound quality at the level of the iconic Model D speaker, with enhanced room placement flexibility from a smaller design and separate woofers.

Unique open dipole loudspeaker design

The Model C’s distinct open baffle dipole design means no air compression and no sound coloration from a common speaker enclosure, leading to a very pure, transparent, high-resolution sound from the renowned Air Motion Transformer tweeter and two precision-cast magnesium cone midrange drivers. The exposed design also resembles an open piano, with the bronze-gold lacquered frame and fascinating sound technology details visible from the back side. Every Model C is assembled and finished by hand in Skive, Denmark. The black lacquered and gold-plated parts are made to the same quality standards as a Steinway & Sons piano, giving the speaker its unmistakable appearance. Customized lacquers and finishes are available on request.

High room flexibility and bass performance from separate woofers

Freeing the Model C loudspeakers from the woofers allows a very elegant and slim design with more room placement flexibility, while the bass performance improves due to Steinway Lyngdorf’s unique boundary woofer concept. Two accompanying woofers are amplified separately and placed elsewhere in the room near the room corners, ensuring an extraordinary reproduction of any music, with tight yet also deep and powerful bass, up to astonishingly high volume levels. Different Steinway & Sons boundary woofers can be chosen according to room size, interior design, and desired sound performance.

Integrated system approach with fully active, digital crossover design

As with every Steinway & Sons speaker, the Model C is part of the company’s Integrated System Approach, ensuring each part of the system, from the speakers and boundary woofers to the Steinway & Sons stereo or surround processors and powerful digital amplifiers, is designed from the ground up to work perfectly together. Tweeter, midrange drivers and woofers have their own digital amplifier, with all crossover, distance alignment, and sound tuning entirely inside the digital processor. Steinway Lyngdorf’s RoomPerfect™ technology is the finishing touch for each integrated system. RoomPerfect™ acoustically calibrates the speakers and woofers to the room acoustics, always ensuring the very best sound experience for every customer, in any room.

Availability

The new Steinway & Sons Model C will be available in Q2 2024. System prices depend on the choice of stereo or surround processor and boundary woofer model.

Statements from the team

“Just like the Steinway & Sons grand piano has been synonymous with outstanding craftmanship and uncompromising quality since 1853, the Model C and D have also been the pinnacle of the speaker systems from Steinway Lyngdorf. With this update we bring the Model C back to life with a much more elegant expression but with the same aesthetics and effortless sound that makes it the centerpiece of your home.”
Thomas Birkelund, CEO and CTO at Steinway Lyngdorf

“Our best speaker is no doubt the iconic Model D, which started the company’s partnership with Steinway & Sons. But not everyone can place such a statement speaker in their livingroom. The new Model C has the exact same open dipole midrange and tweeter section, while the bass performance comes from the acoustically ingenious boundary woofer concept. This merges the best of both worlds, in a truly elegant and light speaker design showing the distinct materials and appearance of the world’s finest piano.”
Roland Hoffmann, Product Marketing Director at Steinway Lyngdorf

“Model C has been our hidden gem for quite some time. It is the more space-saving version of the full-range Model D, designed for smaller rooms. Taste and interior design needs have changed since its first introduction. To honor this evolution, we have redesigned the Model C to enhance its visual impact: sleeker, more discreet, and more contemporary – embodying the essence of the Model C. All this is achieved without compromising audio performance, and we are confident that the Model C MK II will be welcomed by a broader audience seeking the ultimate experience in all aspects of their homes.”
Anker Haldan, CCO at Steinway Lyngdorf

Increased channel count support, Dolby updates and HDCP improvements

We are thrilled to announce the release of our latest software update, version 5.1.0, for all Lyngdorf Audio and Steinway Lyngdorf processors. This update marks a significant leap forward in our commitment to delivering exceptional audio experiences.

Elevating your audio experience
  1. 12-channel decoding for enhanced immersion: Recognizing the growing trend of 12-channel setups, the Steinway & Sons P100 has been upgraded to support 12-channel decoding instead of the original 10 native channel decoding. This enhancement ensures a richer, more immersive audio experience, eliminating any compromise in quality.
  2. Dolby enabled speaker update: For those using Dolby enabled speakers, we have removed the previous XXL limitation. Now, the cut off frequency is consistently set at 180Hz, ensuring a seamless and dynamic audio performance. Additionally, the Cue-filter has been integrated into the enabled speakers, streamlining your audio setup.
  3. HDCP license stability: We have addressed the rare instances of HDCP license loss in some boards. These will now be reprogrammed automatically, requiring no action from you. This update is designed to be seamless, maintaining uninterrupted high-quality audio-visual experiences.
  4. Enhanced dual output functionality: Issues with simultaneous use of TV and projector outputs (resulting in a black screen) have been resolved. Now, enjoy flawless performance whether using one or both outputs.
  5. Simplified EDID handling: In our Lyngdorf MP-60 2.1 and Steinway & Sons P300 2.1, we have streamlined the EDID handling process. This simplification removes any confusion, making it easier for you to manage your settings effectively.

Marine Speaker at ISE

ISE, the world’s leading AV and systems integration exhibition, had been rescheduled several times and now finally took place May 10-13th, 2022.

Compared to ISE Amsterdam 2019 with 81.000 visitors and ISE Amsterdam 2020 with 52.000 visitors, this year the relocated exhibition was downscaled with fewer halls and 43.000 visitors. Steinway Lyngdorf adapted to this, but still premiered its new Marine Speaker for luxury outdoor sound systems and displayed a select range of Steinway and Lyngdorf Audio products, including the latest Lyngdorf LS-1000, D-500, D-5, and BW-20 installation speakers. Music entertainment came from the amazing Steinway & Sons Spirio self-playing piano, with special thanks to Eduardo from the Steinway & Sons distribution partner Hinves.

A highlight was the wonderful apartment, showroom, and home cinema of Genesis Home Technology, where a Steinway & Sons Model O, another Steinway & Sons piano as well and an elegantly designed Dolby Atmos private cinema impressed our invited partners. We’re very much looking forward to 2023.

High End 2022

Europe’s largest audio show HIGH END Munich was postponed three times and now finally took place May 19th – 22nd 2022. It successfully reached the visitor numbers from 2019, with close to 20.000 visitors and over 400 journalists from 35 countries, with 800 audio brands and exhibitors.

Lyngdorf Audio had a 75 sq. demo- and showroom in the grand Atrium 4, while the Steinway & Sons products were displayed in a special “apartment lounge” part of the room, with the impressive new Steinway & Sons Model A on demo.

Special highlight of the whole HIGH END was a Steinway & Sons concert piano Model D-274, placed prominently next to our Steinway & Sons Model D loudspeaker in the Atrium 3 entrance hall. The piano was the latest, self-playing Spirio model which created great attention, yet nothing beats the real thing when official Steinway Artist Vincent Corver was playing, or when a spontaneously bypassing Italian visitor turned out to be a piano virtuoso. Special thanks to Vincent Corver and Alessio Paolizzi for giving everyone magical music moments.

Here are some links and impressions for everyone who couldn’t travel to Munich, or to remember the event:

Steinway Lyngdorf becomes its own UK distributor

Steinway Lyngdorf becomes its own UK distributor

Steinway Lyngdorf becomes its own UK distributor

Model D in production

After 8 years with an English distributor, Steinway Lyngdorf goes all the way to become its own distributor in England. In October 2021 Steinway Lyngdorf established a new company in England, and from April 1st 2022 dealers can purchase directly from Steinway Lyngdorf UK.

“UK is a really good hi-fi and home cinema market and always has been. It is a big step for us to enter the market, but we believe that, by having a presence ourselves, we can significantly increase our sales in the coming years. In the autumn of 2021, we found the right person to help make this happen. We had reached a maturity in the market that allows us to justify it, and at the same time we had reached a point where we could start to see some limitations to further growth”, says Anker Haldan, CCO at Steinway Lyngdorf.

Steinway & Sons Model A

Steinway Lyngdorf announces the launch of the new free-standing Steinway & Sons Model A loudspeaker. The new Model A is a full-range loudspeaker and provides the acclaimed Steinway & Sons sound performance from a loudspeaker specifically designed for room-friendly placement against a wall. This makes the Model A the first choice when the room shape or interior demands a more space-saving setup, from living rooms and media rooms to apartments, penthouses, or yachts, and even dedicated home cinemas without the space for separate woofers.

No compromises have been made in technology: Steinway Lyngdorf’s signature Air Motion Transformer tweeter and a dedicated midrange driver provide outstanding clarity and transparency, while two powerful 12” woofers deliver very deep, yet defined bass even from this shallow speaker cabinet. The speaker design features distinct side panels in black piano finish, black strings, and matte gold accents. Custom colors and polished gold details are available on request and special order. The Model A loudspeaker is designed and assembled by hand in Denmark.

As with every Steinway & Sons loudspeaker, the Model A is part of Steinway Lyngdorf’s Integrated System Approach, ensuring each part of the system—from the Steinway & Sons stereo and surround sound processors to the powerful digital amplifiers and loudspeakers—is designed from the ground up to work perfectly together. Steinway Lyngdorf’s RoomPerfect™ technology is the finishing touch for each integrated system. RoomPerfect™ acoustically calibrates the speaker to the room acoustics, always ensuring the very best sound experience for every customer, in any room.

Anker Haldan, CCO at Steinway Lyngdorf:

“The popularity of our Steinway Lyngdorf floor-standing speaker systems has grown significantly in recent years. During this phase, it became evident to us that there is a demand for expanding our range to offer a system in between Model O and Model B. This has resulted in the complete new Model A speaker system, which we now proudly present. With an expanding global network of distributors and our new UK subsidiary to be fully operational by April 1st 2022, the timing is right to launch the Model A to quality-conscious people seeking the ultimate in music systems.”

Roland Hoffmann, Director of Product Marketing at Steinway Lyngdorf, emphasizes the special purpose of this model:

“Over the years, the Steinway Lyngdorf loudspeaker portfolio has continuously expanded, and ranges from the iconic Model D to the incredibly small yet ingenious Model S. The new Model A is the ideal choice for anyone who wants the acclaimed Steinway & Sons loudspeaker performance but prefers the most living room-friendly placement nearest the wall. While this is often regarded as a less than ideal placement in the room, the Model A surpasses any expectations and provides an extraordinary sound experience.“

The Steinway & Sons Model A will be available in Q2 2022.

Native immersive experience with Spatial

Native immersive experience with Spatial

Native immersive experience with Spatial

ultimate home cinema

The next generation of high-quality and home audio systems will provide a native immersive experience with the digital integration of Spatial’s real-time immersive audio engine and Steinway Lyngdorf’s unsurpassed processor audio experience

Spatial, the immersive audio experience company that is reinventing sound and Steinway Lyngdorf today announced at CEDIA Expo a game-changing native digital integration between Spatial’s real-time immersive audio engine and Steinway Lyngdorf’s unsurpassed processor audio experience. The integration promises to provide audiophiles and home-theater system owners with deeper, immersive sound that will not only reproduce the sound to its truest fidelity, but will also transport listeners to another place, moment or time.

We’ve been working closely with the Steinway Lyngdorf team to break traditional installation constraints,” said Calin Pacurariu, Co-Founder and CEO, Spatial. “Our clients, modern architects, and space designers demand flexible layouts for interior and exterior spaces across estates. Spatial’s new native integration with Steinway Lyngdorf enables designs that otherwise wouldn’t be possible.

Spatial’s deep real-time immersion combined with Steinway Lyngdorf’s unparalleled processing performance brings a unique approach to sound in the smart home industry,” said Thomas Birkelund, CEO, Steinway Lyngdorf. “Combining our technical expertise and strengths provides our respective customers a first-of-its-kind product that delivers an unmatched audio experience.”

Crafting Next-Gen Sound Experiences

Spatial Reality engine is built on an object-driven platform that operates on modern Mac and Linux systems. The program is free of rigid requirements like speaker location or the size/shape of a space. Designers using Spatial playback can connect and assign a variety of audio outputs and inputs to prepare believable soundscapes in real-time, and scenes can scale and adapt to each location with natural physics and complex object behaviors that allow for 24:7 dynamic experiences. Spatial Reality runs on a dedicated Mac that is connected digitally via AES67 to Lyngdorf MP-60 2.1 surround sound processor or Steinway & Sons P300 2.1 ultimate performance processor.

The Spatial integration with Steinway Lyngdorf allows for a seamless expansion to the soundfield for all the native processor immersive formats including Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and more. Spatial’s flexible layout approach allows for additional channels in non-traditional locations to fully envelope the space. The approach is particularly well suited for modern indoor and outdoor theater environments.

With the pure digital integration Spatial’s expanded soundfield and real-time soundscapes stay in their native form assuring the highest quality and performance. Native Steinway Lyngdorf technology including RoomPerfect, Boundary Woofers and more are maintained thanks to the fully digital system architecture.

Early customers include estates with non-traditional theater layouts that were demanded by the clients and architects. A traditional approach simply wouldn’t work as the traditional speakers’ locations weren’t possible due to the large opening glass panels to the outside or non-rectangular room designs. In one example, Spatial’s solution coupled with Lyngdorf MP-60 allowed for an expanded soundfield from 27 James Loudspeakers arranged in a discrete manner meeting the clients aesthetic and performance expectations.

When I first heard the Spatial integration with the Lyngdorf Audio processor I was blown away,” said Claus Glaesner, CEO of Home Theater Professionals. “I can’t wait for people to experience the rich depth of immersion that’s possible with Spatial and Steinway Lyngdorf.”

It’s been a pleasure working with the deep audio experts at Steinway Lyngdorf as we developed the native real-time integration of Spatial Reality via AES67 to Steinway Lyngdorf’s processors,” added Michael Plitkins, Co-Founder and Co-der “The standards-based approach allowed us to natively enhance traditional immersive audio formats with Spatial’s computational auditory approach in non-traditional spaces while reducing complexity in system design.”

Where to Listen

Private listening sessions are available by appointment at Spatial’s locations in Emeryville CA and Scottsdale AZ. In the coming months Steinway Lyngdorf locations in Hollywood CA and New York NY will start hosting private listening sessions.
