Steinway & Sons Model A

Steinway Lyngdorf announces the launch of the new free-standing Steinway & Sons Model A loudspeaker. The new Model A is a full-range loudspeaker and provides the acclaimed Steinway & Sons sound performance from a loudspeaker specifically designed for room-friendly placement against a wall. This makes the Model A the first choice when the room shape or interior demands a more space-saving setup, from living rooms and media rooms to apartments, penthouses, or yachts, and even dedicated home cinemas without the space for separate woofers.

No compromises have been made in technology: Steinway Lyngdorf’s signature Air Motion Transformer tweeter and a dedicated midrange driver provide outstanding clarity and transparency, while two powerful 12” woofers deliver very deep, yet defined bass even from this shallow speaker cabinet. The speaker design features distinct side panels in black piano finish, black strings, and matte gold accents. Custom colors and polished gold details are available on request and special order. The Model A loudspeaker is designed and assembled by hand in Denmark.

As with every Steinway & Sons loudspeaker, the Model A is part of Steinway Lyngdorf’s Integrated System Approach, ensuring each part of the system—from the Steinway & Sons stereo and surround sound processors to the powerful digital amplifiers and loudspeakers—is designed from the ground up to work perfectly together. Steinway Lyngdorf’s RoomPerfect™ technology is the finishing touch for each integrated system. RoomPerfect™ acoustically calibrates the speaker to the room acoustics, always ensuring the very best sound experience for every customer, in any room.

Anker Haldan, CCO at Steinway Lyngdorf:

“The popularity of our Steinway Lyngdorf floor-standing speaker systems has grown significantly in recent years. During this phase, it became evident to us that there is a demand for expanding our range to offer a system in between Model O and Model B. This has resulted in the complete new Model A speaker system, which we now proudly present. With an expanding global network of distributors and our new UK subsidiary to be fully operational by April 1st 2022, the timing is right to launch the Model A to quality-conscious people seeking the ultimate in music systems.”

Roland Hoffmann, Director of Product Marketing at Steinway Lyngdorf, emphasizes the special purpose of this model:

“Over the years, the Steinway Lyngdorf loudspeaker portfolio has continuously expanded, and ranges from the iconic Model D to the incredibly small yet ingenious Model S. The new Model A is the ideal choice for anyone who wants the acclaimed Steinway & Sons loudspeaker performance but prefers the most living room-friendly placement nearest the wall. While this is often regarded as a less than ideal placement in the room, the Model A surpasses any expectations and provides an extraordinary sound experience.“

The Steinway & Sons Model A will be available in Q2 2022.

Native immersive experience with Spatial

Native immersive experience with Spatial

ultimate home cinema

The next generation of high-quality and home audio systems will provide a native immersive experience with the digital integration of Spatial’s real-time immersive audio engine and Steinway Lyngdorf’s unsurpassed processor audio experience

Spatial, the immersive audio experience company that is reinventing sound and Steinway Lyngdorf today announced at CEDIA Expo a game-changing native digital integration between Spatial’s real-time immersive audio engine and Steinway Lyngdorf’s unsurpassed processor audio experience. The integration promises to provide audiophiles and home-theater system owners with deeper, immersive sound that will not only reproduce the sound to its truest fidelity, but will also transport listeners to another place, moment or time.

We’ve been working closely with the Steinway Lyngdorf team to break traditional installation constraints,” said Calin Pacurariu, Co-Founder and CEO, Spatial. “Our clients, modern architects, and space designers demand flexible layouts for interior and exterior spaces across estates. Spatial’s new native integration with Steinway Lyngdorf enables designs that otherwise wouldn’t be possible.

Spatial’s deep real-time immersion combined with Steinway Lyngdorf’s unparalleled processing performance brings a unique approach to sound in the smart home industry,” said Thomas Birkelund, CEO, Steinway Lyngdorf. “Combining our technical expertise and strengths provides our respective customers a first-of-its-kind product that delivers an unmatched audio experience.”

Crafting Next-Gen Sound Experiences

Spatial Reality engine is built on an object-driven platform that operates on modern Mac and Linux systems. The program is free of rigid requirements like speaker location or the size/shape of a space. Designers using Spatial playback can connect and assign a variety of audio outputs and inputs to prepare believable soundscapes in real-time, and scenes can scale and adapt to each location with natural physics and complex object behaviors that allow for 24:7 dynamic experiences. Spatial Reality runs on a dedicated Mac that is connected digitally via AES67 to Lyngdorf MP-60 2.1 surround sound processor or Steinway & Sons P300 2.1 ultimate performance processor.

The Spatial integration with Steinway Lyngdorf allows for a seamless expansion to the soundfield for all the native processor immersive formats including Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and more. Spatial’s flexible layout approach allows for additional channels in non-traditional locations to fully envelope the space. The approach is particularly well suited for modern indoor and outdoor theater environments.

With the pure digital integration Spatial’s expanded soundfield and real-time soundscapes stay in their native form assuring the highest quality and performance. Native Steinway Lyngdorf technology including RoomPerfect, Boundary Woofers and more are maintained thanks to the fully digital system architecture.

Early customers include estates with non-traditional theater layouts that were demanded by the clients and architects. A traditional approach simply wouldn’t work as the traditional speakers’ locations weren’t possible due to the large opening glass panels to the outside or non-rectangular room designs. In one example, Spatial’s solution coupled with Lyngdorf MP-60 allowed for an expanded soundfield from 27 James Loudspeakers arranged in a discrete manner meeting the clients aesthetic and performance expectations.

When I first heard the Spatial integration with the Lyngdorf Audio processor I was blown away,” said Claus Glaesner, CEO of Home Theater Professionals. “I can’t wait for people to experience the rich depth of immersion that’s possible with Spatial and Steinway Lyngdorf.”

It’s been a pleasure working with the deep audio experts at Steinway Lyngdorf as we developed the native real-time integration of Spatial Reality via AES67 to Steinway Lyngdorf’s processors,” added Michael Plitkins, Co-Founder and Co-der “The standards-based approach allowed us to natively enhance traditional immersive audio formats with Spatial’s computational auditory approach in non-traditional spaces while reducing complexity in system design.”

Where to Listen

Private listening sessions are available by appointment at Spatial’s locations in Emeryville CA and Scottsdale AZ. In the coming months Steinway Lyngdorf locations in Hollywood CA and New York NY will start hosting private listening sessions.

P100 & Head Unit 2.1 Upgrade Postponed

P100 & Head Unit 2.1 Upgrade Postponed

P-100 in wooden furniture

In the beginning of the year, we announced the second HDMI 2.1 roll-out for our remaining processor program, Lyngdorf MP-40, Steinway & Sons P100 and Steinway & Sons Head Unit to start second half of 2021.

Since then, we have seen dramatic shortages of components, a situation we have done our utmost to manage the best way to avoid long lead times in our processor program. However, this means we have to postpone the second roll-out of the processors until 2023. A specific time cannot yet be stated, as the schedule is dependent on the component situation at that time.

Once launched, we will of course offer an upgrade program similar to the program we offered when we launched the first roll-out for Lyngdorf MP-60 and Steinway & Sons P300 processors.

Close up af Model S-15

Martin Dew from Home Theater Forum has compared a Steinway Lyngdorf system with a Lyngdorf Audio system. The goal was not necessarily to identify the finest home theater, but to pinpoint the audio characteristics.

Below, you can read his final thoughts, and at the bottom of the page you can find a link to the whole comparison.

“Okay, if money were no object, I would order a Steinway integrated system in a shot. Done. That was easy. It is ultra-cool to have that name embossed on the same multi-stage gloss lacquer used for the company’s legendary pianos. In terms of performance, you just get the feeling with the Steinway gear that there is nothing standing between you and the source…and I mean nothing. If that gives them a slight edge over Lyngdorf, then so be it, but both systems are rock solid and phenomenal in execution.

I will not pretend that there is anything attractive about the price of these systems, but we all need tech we can dream about. It may be that the wizardry found in the RoomPerfect calibration system will trickle down into more affordable components one day. In the meantime, Lyngdorf Audio is making some of the magic available to less well-heeled clients in the form of the MP- processors and SDA- amps. If you are planning to spend $10k on a projector, for example, then you should definitely be thinking about Lyngdorf for your electronics.

Finally, I so appreciate what Steinway Lyngdorf is doing for the audio community. Their products have nothing short of made me re-evaluate what it is I love about music and movies. And that’s saying something.”

P100 HDMI 2.1

Following the release of HDMI 2.1 for its flagship models, Lyngdorf MP-60 2.1 and Steinway & Sons P300 2.1 (availability February 2021), Steinway Lyngdorf is now moving on to HDMI 2.1 for the remaining processors. The second HDMI 2.1 roll-out includes the following models: Lyngdorf MP-40, Steinway & Sons P100, and Steinway & Sons Head Unit.

Steinway Lyngdorf announces that the work will begin on the 8K-ready HDMI 2.1 board updates for release during the second half of 2021.

Continuing Steinway Lyngdorf’s technology approach to the AV market, the company will still use INVECAS (meanwhile acquired by Analog Device) chips in the new solutions. Following the 2017 acquisition of Lattice Semiconductor Corporation’s HDMI design team and Simplay Labs’ subsidiary, which oversees standards compliance and interoperability testing solutions, INVECAS announced the world’s first HDMI® 2.1 with HDCP 2.3 chip & IP solutions.

Key features of HDMI 2.1 include:

  • 8K 50/60Hz, 40 Gbps and 4K 100/120Hz, 18 Gpbs as outlined in the HDMI 2.1 specification
  • Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC)
  • Support for Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) modes
  • Support for static and dynamic HDR allowing for extended dynamic range and wide color gamut support
  • HDCP 2.3 premium content protection

The processor 2.1 upgrade program offered to current owners will be similar to the upgrade program that is offered for Lyngdorf MP-60 and Steinway & Sons P300.
